Mission & Vision

The HCGNE strives to improve the quality of life for all older adults, their families and communities by meeting individual needs, hopes and expectations.

Advance geriatric nursing faculty development by recruiting new geriatric nursing faculty through our PhD and DNP programS and facilitating current geriatric nursing faculty to increase their expertise in interprofessional geriatric education, research and leadership in Arkansas and the southern region utilizing the IOM Future of Nursing recommendations as a guideline.

Objective 1: Prepare new geriatric nursing faculty for their academic role.

Objective 2: Retool 15 nursing faculty teaching older adult content to either become certified in geriatric nursing or teaching or to expand their qualifications in interprofessional education, research and leadership over the 3 year grant cycle.

Objective 3: Participate in programs sponsored by the National Hartford Centers of Geriatric Nursing.

Mission and Vision of the John A. Hartford Foundation

The John A. Hartford Foundation is the funding organization for HCGNE. Founded in 1929, the John A. Hartford Foundation is a committed champion of health care training, research and service system innovations that will ensure the well-being and vitality of older adults. Its mission is to improve the health of older Americans. Today, the Foundation is America’s leading philanthropy with a sustained interest in aging and health. Through its grantmaking, the John A. Hartford Foundation seeks specifically to:

  • Enhance and expand the training of doctors, nurses, social workers and other health professionals who care for elders, and
  • Promote innovations in the integration and delivery of services for all older people.

Recognizing that its commitment alone is not sufficient to realize the improvements it seeks, the John A. Hartford Foundation invites and encourages innovative partnerships with other funders, as well as public, non-profit and private groups dedicated to improving the health of older adults.
