Southern Region Coalition
The Hartford Center of
Geriatric Nursing Excellence (HCGNE), located at the University of Arkansas for
Medical Sciences College of Nursing, initiated development of the Southern Region Coalition
(SRC) in May 2004. This
initiative was underwritten by the John A. Hartford Foundation in New York, with
the goal of developing a strategic plan to assure that each
baccalaureate nursing program in the southern region had either a stand alone or
integrated geriatric curriculum. Many of the schools involved in the
Southern Region Coalition are John A. Hartford Investment Schools or have
sponsored John A. Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing
Capacity Predoctoral or Postdoctoral Scholars. At
least one representative from each state in the Southern Region Education Board
(SREB) has been invited to join the Coalition. We will continue to post key
developments here as the Coalition continues its work.
