HCGNE Summer Externship
in Geriatric Nursing for
UAMS College of Nursing Students
With the aging population
growing so quickly, there is a great demand for nurses interested in
geriatrics. This externship provides students with the opportunity to
explore various types of practice settings such as research, education and
leadership. The student(s) will work in Little Rock at the Donald W.
Reynolds Institute on Aging, at the Walker Memory Center and the Senior
Health Center. Experiences will also include research at the NLR
Veterans Administration Hospital and selected nursing homes. The
externs get to work with nationally known nurses and also obtain a broad
view of the wonderful work being done by geriatric nurses in our community.
The 8-week full time externship begins
after the spring semester ends. This is a paid program offering a
stipend of up to $4,000 plus tuition for enrollment in N4042: Summer Extern
Program and Role Seminar (undergraduate) a 2 hour credit course. The
HCGNE is led by nationally recognized geriatric nurse leaders, researchers,
clinicians and educators. This group is excited to share their
geriatric experience with young, talented students.
Application for Summer 2008
due by March 3,
2008.
