April 26, 2007 Benefit Luncheon
What a beautiful day
it was for a luncheon! Thank you again for your contribution and/or
attending our Benefit Luncheon at the Pleasant Valley Country Club. We were
very pleased with the attendance of over 125. Guest speakers, Jo Ellen Ford
and Randy Wilbourn provided us great insight about the care of aging family
members. As brother and sister, they had to step into the lives of their
parents in ways which were necessary for their long term care.
We wanted to inform
you that as a result of the luncheon we raised $6,689 for programs that
benefit students such as the Geriatric Nursing Summer Externship.
Thank you to all the
members of the HCGNE Community Advisory Committee who worked hard to make
this fundraiser a success for our program.
We would like to offer
special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Baldwin & Shell Construction
Company.
UAMS College of Nursing baccalaureate
honors
program students and newly selected geriatric externs were able to attend
the luncheon thanks to a donation by Drs. Michael and Sarah Carter. Dr.
Claudia Barone, Dean of the College of Nursing sponsored a table for master
and PhD students. Also, a special thanks to our other table sponsors:
Dr. Doyne and Nancy Williams, Southridge
Village at Sugarloaf, the Institute on Aging and the UAMS Foundation. Many
of you asked about the beautiful flower arrangements. These were designed
by Floral
Express.

Geriatric Nursing Summer Externship
Students
Lyle Gruby, Mark Tanner, Teresa West, Sarah Leech and Diana Tran are the
geriatric externs for 2007. We are so excited to be able to offer this
externship to these five bright and motivated students. The externship will
last eight weeks and Dr. Claudia Beverly will be the primary mentor. The
externs will also have the opportunity to work with Drs. Cornelia Beck,
Kathy Richards, Elaine Souder, Leanne Lefler, and Jean McSweeny. They will be
provided with geriatric nursing experiences through the Donald W. Reynolds
Institute On Aging, the Arkansas Aging Initiative and the North Little Rock
VA.
